How to Buy from Us

We store the items donated at the two depots in Hawick and Walkerburn. This is where people who want to buy from us would visit to make their choices.

We can deliver items to people's homes for a cost or they can be taken away on the day. As a charity we give priority to those people most in need. Local organisations get in touch with us to refer their clients. This entitles the referral to get 25% off the marked costs of the item and 50% of the delivery cost.

To get a referral customers need to be in receipt of a benefit of some kind. When the form has gone off to Home Basics we expect the client or their support worker to get in touch with their nearest depot to make arrangements for a visit.

Sales of surplus stock take place in the depots one day in the week and also on a Saturday morning. Hawick is open Wednesday to Friday from 10 to 4 and Saturdays from 10 to 1, and Walkerburn has sale days on a Thursday from 10 to 4 and every Saturday morning from 10 to 1.

We look forward to seeing you. The stock changes all the time with new items added every few days.

You can pay with cash or cheques plus bank card. We don't have the facility to accept debit or credit cards and we don't give credit or take deposits for items.

White Goods (Washing machines, Fridge-freezers, Cookers) - White goods are reserved for our customers on means-tested benefits.  These items are much harder to come by in good, re-usable condition, and we simply do not receive enough suitable donations to have white goods available to the general public.  We apologise about this but as a charity need to prioritise the needs of our primary beneficiaries.

How to Donate to Us

All the items we use are donated by people living in the Borders area. We rely on your donations of good quality items and if you have anything you think might be useful to use please contact us to arrange for our delivery van to visit.

Unfortunately we may not always be able to take every item offered to us since we must assess that they meet our safety standards. We never promise to take an item until our drivers have been to see and assess the item(s).

Alternatively feel free to bring your item(s) us to see at either the Hawick or Walkerburn depots.

What we CANNOT Accept

There are a few things which we don't accept. We can not take gas or calor gas items, no electric blankets and we don't stock clothes or shoes. To find details of where to donate other items please visit Geneous Border by clicking here.

If the items you wish to donate are in another part of Scotland please visit the Community Recycling Network for Scotland Website (CRNS) where you will find an interactive map that will lead you to the most appropriate organisation.
